What’s a TMDL?
A TMDL, Total Maximum Daily Load, is a calculation of the maximum amount of a pollutant from point sources, directly from outfall pipes or from a specific definable source, and non-point sources, pollution from many scattered sources, that a waterbody can receive and still meet water quality standards. A TMDL must include a margin of safety and consideration of seasonal variations within the waterbody. Under Section 303 of the Clean Water Act the Total Maximum Daily Load was established as a means of reducing water pollution. For more information, please visit the
