• Congratulations to Mark McFarland and the Nutrient Management Education in the Rio Grande Valley Team, recipients of the TCEQ Texas Environmental Excellence Award, Texas' highest environmental award.
• Perchlorate FAQs have been updated in response to EPA's release of a new health advisory for perchlorate in January, 2009.
• Alabama A&M University Designated a Center of Excellence for Watershed Management by EPA Region IV.
• The American Society of Agronomy presented 2008 Educational Materials Awards for websites to the Southern Region Water Quality Information System (this website), and for Publications Over 16 pages to the Texas Watershed Steward Handbook: A Water Resource Training Curriculum, and to No-till Cropping Systems in Oklahoma. Congratulations to the Southern Region Water Quality Planning Committee, Jaclyn Tech, Raghavan Srinivasan, Jennifer Peterson, Nikki Dictson, Matt Berg, Mike Smolen and Hailin Zhang.
